At Gecko, we build software that helps Higher Education institutions engage and communicate better with students. The impact of our platform matters, but so does how we run the business behind it.
We are a SaaS company with a team of around 40 people across the UK and US. Our business is primarily digital and remote-first, which naturally keeps our environmental footprint relatively low; that said, we believe responsible business practices still matter, regardless of company size.
This statement outlines how we approach environmental responsibility, how we support our people, and how we run Gecko with integrity.
As a digital SaaS company, our operations have a relatively light physical footprint. Even so, we aim to make practical choices that minimise unnecessary environmental impact.
Remote-first working
Gecko operates primarily as a remote company, with team members working from home across the UK and US. This significantly reduces the commuting footprint associated with traditional office-based organisations.
Remote working is core to how Gecko operates rather than a traditional office-based model.
Flexible workspace when needed
To support collaboration and travel where needed, we use flexible workspace on an as-needed basis rather than maintaining a permanent office.
This allows team members to meet or work together when useful, while keeping our physical footprint and overhead lower than a traditional office-based setup.
Thoughtful business travel
Travel is sometimes necessary when working with universities and partners. When we do travel, we aim to make sensible choices that minimise unnecessary emissions.
Digital and paperless operations
Gecko runs almost entirely digitally. Documentation, collaboration and internal processes are cloud-based, meaning we avoid paper-heavy workflows and physical infrastructure wherever possible.
Looking ahead
As Gecko grows, we are committed to better understanding our environmental impact and identifying practical steps to reduce it over time. Our aim is to make sensible progress based on real data and the realities of our business, rather than setting targets we cannot yet confidently measure or support.
